“Baba Richie: Spreading Love, Unity, and Social Awareness Through Soul Music”

By Nightengale Ben-Onyeukwu

What inspired you to use music as a platform to spread messages of peace, love, and unity?

For me, the inspiration behind the music I create is deeply spiritual, intertwined with my personal life experiences. I believe that music without the powerful elements of “Love, Peace, and Unity” is incomplete because they are the essence of life itself.

How do you maintain your dedication and commitment to your musical career?

To maintain dedication and faithfulness to my musical career, I let go of any distractions, especially concerning the people I collaborate and work with. I stay focused on my musical goals and aspirations, both artistically and beyond.

Could you share the creative process behind your song “My Ghetto” and how it connects with the struggles faced by those in disadvantaged communities?

The creativity behind “My Ghetto” draws from various elements, including the behavior I observe in people around me, both those living in disadvantaged communities and the privileged ones in the cities. It is disheartening to witness how some privileged individuals constantly exploit those who are yet to fulfill their dreams. This struggle is not limited to disadvantaged communities alone but exists in the very cities where the privileged reside. It highlights the fact that we are all living in a metaphorical “ghetto.”

In “My Ghetto,” you acknowledge God as the sustainer and preserver of all. Could you elaborate on the role of spirituality in your music and how it influences your artistic expression?

Certainly, in my songs, I always express gratitude and honour to Jah, I mean God, because life itself lacks meaning without the presence of God. Even in our worldly “Ghetto” where we reside and exist, it is God who sustains life. Therefore, I find it crucial to infuse my artistic expression with spiritual influence. It is all about relying on God.

With a dedicated fan base of over 100 supporters, how does their support impact your motivation and drive as an artist?

Their support has an immense impact on me as an artist. The energy and encouragement I receive from my fans have fostered positive motivation throughout the years and propelled me forward. Their presence at my performances has consistently inspired me to continue pushing boundaries and striving for more. I deeply appreciate and commend their unwavering support.

Are there any upcoming projects or collaborations that you are excited about and would like to share with your fans?

Absolutely! There are numerous exciting projects on ground. One of them is my upcoming album, set to be released next year. This album will delve deeper into the realities of life. Additionally, I am thrilled to announce that I will be collaborating with some incredibly talented artists who are at the top of their game in the industry.

How do you ensure that your voice stands out in a highly competitive music industry, and what makes it unique?

My voice is truly unique, and I don’t believe there is any competition when it comes to my vocal style in the industry. My voice serves as a symbol of greatness and achievement, setting me apart from the rest.

What message or emotion do you hope listeners take away from “My Ghetto”?

With “My Ghetto,” I aim to evoke a sense of hope and encourage consistency in the hearts of listeners.

How do you balance the responsibility of using your music to address social issues while still creating enjoyable and engaging songs?

It’s certainly a challenge, but I do my best to strike a balance. Addressing social issues through my music can be a delicate task, as some individuals may misinterpret my message. However, I firmly believe in delivering messages that are meant for everyone, regardless of their interpretation. I strive to marry social consciousness with enjoyable and engaging musical elements in my own unique way.

What are your aspirations and goals for the future of your music career, and how do you plan to achieve them?

In the near future, I plan to produce and nurture like-minded artists under my label, “Talent House Music,” who will create extraordinary music with powerful messages. I firmly believe that the future holds brightness for me because my dreams are grounded in authenticity and positivity, ensuring a path of success.
